Summary

Zoe was called to the Bar in 2010 and is a Harmsworth Scholar of the Middle Temple; she studied Law at the University of Nottingham and completed her legal training at Nottingham Law School.

 

Zoe is a specialist Children Act practitioner. She is passionate about her work at the Family Bar and has been commended for her robust and thorough approach. Zoe undertakes al1 aspects of contested Children Act proceedings; she is focussed on achieving the best outcome for her clients at every stage of the litigation.

Zoe is a direct access accredited Barrister. She works on the Pupillage Committee within Chambers, and is Chambers’ Wellbeing Officer.

Private Law

Zoe acts in all aspects of private law matters. Zoe has particular experience of complex and protracted private law disputes and is often instructed in cases which require the appointment of a Guardian to act on behalf the child/ren. Zoe appears in cases involving serious allegations of domestic violence, rape, honour based violence and child abuse.

Zoe regularly conducts finding of fact hearings and has experience of representing clients with significant mental health difficulties. She is experienced in dealing with instructions from the Official Solicitor.

Zoe deals with cases which involve conflicts as to cultural, religious and medical decisions for the child, as well as those involving leave to relocate outside of the jurisdiction.

Zoe has been recognised for handling cases robustly, and is commended for her efficiency in conducting cases for privately paying clients who are no longer eligible for legal aid.

Public Law

Zoe acts for parents, children and Local Authorities in all aspects of public law proceedings, including contested interim, final and finding of fact hearings. Zoe is recognised for her firm and efficient approach. She regularly handles cases involving the cross-examination of expert witnesses.

Zoe acts in Non-Accidental Injury cases, cases involving significant neglect, sexual abuse, physical harm and emotional harm. Zoe has particular experience of complex finding of fact hearings relating to allegations of intra-familial sexual abuse, including those with related or ongoing criminal investigations.

Zoe is experienced in dealing with cases involving parents with personality disorders, learning difficulties and mental health conditions. She also acts for parents requiring the assistance of the Official Solicitor.

Zoe appears in the High Court and has experience of cases involving the Court’s inherent jurisdiction. Most recently, Zoe successfully represented a Local Authority in an application to invoke the inherent jurisdiction in a matter regarding the lawfulness of the deprivation of a child’s liberty.
