Steven Veitch

Year of Call 2007

Steven was called to the bar through Lincoln’s Inn in 2007. He was awarded a Sir Thomas More Bursary. He completed the Bar Vocational Course at the Inns of Court School of Law in London.

 

Summary

Steven has considerable experience of Public Law and Private Law Children Act proceedings with a particular emphasis on complex finding of fact hearings.

He acts for local authorities, parents and children.

 

Private law

Steven deals with all aspects of disputes relating to children. He has particular experience of cases involving allegations of child sexual abuse, rape and sexual violence as well as domestic violence and emotional abuse. He has successfully acted for parents against whom false or unproven allegations have been made.

Steven understands that court proceedings relating to children are often upsetting and highly emotive. He is known for his sympathetic, clear and honest advice and has a reputation for fighting for his client’s interests.

 

Public law

Steven regularly appears in cases involving intra-familial sexual abuse and serious violence against children including shaken babies, multiple fractures and burns. Steven is experienced in cross-examining experts on complex medical evidence.

Steven also acts in cases involving significant emotional harm to children and attachment disorders. He regularly cross-examines psychiatrists, psychologists and other expert witnesses on these issues.

Steven acts for parents with learning difficulties and/or who have been through very traumatic experiences and is regarded as having an insightful and sensitive manner.

 

International law

Steven has experience of dealing with international aspects of children law including removals from the jurisdiction, international social work assessments, “Convention” adoptions and the transfer of proceedings under Art. 15 Council Regulation (EC) 2201/2003.

Steven practices as a Family and Public Access barrister.
