Year of Call 2012
Priya was called to the Bar in 2012 and has built up a practice in criminal and civil law. Priya completed the BPTC at Nottingham Law School and was also the recipient of a Middle Temple Scholarship. During her time at the University of Leicester, where she achieved a ‘First Class’ LLB Law Degree, Priya was awarded the Jon Holyoak Prize and was the Senior Mooting Competition Runner-up.
Priya has extensive trial experience, both prosecuting and defending, in the Magistrates’ and Youth Court. She deals with cases involving domestic violence, dishonesty, sexual offences, harassment and benefit fraud. She is known for her ability to deal with vulnerable and child witnesses. Her experience includes applying for and contesting Restraining Orders, Criminal Behaviour Orders and Football Banning Orders.
Priya is also regularly instructed to appear in the Crown Court for private prosecutions and to represent defendants. Her work includes drafting of documents and applications.
Priya has a great deal of experience in road traffic matters; including excess alcohol, special reasons and exceptional hardship arguments. She is also briefed in probation breaches
Priya is instructed in a broad range of civil work. She has developed a particular interest in personal injury litigation and is regularly instructed to act on behalf of claimants and defendants at all stages of the civil process. This includes drafting and routinely advising on liability and quantum.
Priya is also briefed by the police for Domestic Violence Protection Order applications in the Magistrates’ Courts.
