Jane Holt

Jane qualified as a Solicitor in 1992 having previously lectured in Law and Politics and has been in practice as a Solicitor since that date until she transferred and was called to the Bar in 2006. Jane specialises in family law and gained admission to the Law Society Children Panel in 1995, representing children through their guardians and also representing parents, grandparents, intervenors and local authorities in care proceedings.

Jane has advised and represented clients in divorce and ancillary relief matters, and has considerable experience in representing clients in finding of fact hearings.



Jane has had extensive experience in the direct representation of clients for 14 years before she became a barrister and in 2012 she undertook the Bar Council training to enable her to take instructions and represent people as a barrister.

Until resigning from the post in April 2014, Jane was the press and publicity officer for the Nottinghamshire Law Society having also served on the society as chair of the Family Law Committee.

She undertakes all aspects of family law including financial and emergency remedies and Residence and Contact cases; financial cases involve multiple properties, high value pensions, high value assets, section 37 injunction applications and appeals. Jane deals with cases involving accountancy evidence, company assets and inherited wealth. Her cases have included foreign assets, shared property, trusts and intervenors on the issue of whether an asset was a gift or a loan. Her Children Act cases include contested contact and residence hearings, domestic violence, physical/sexual abuse, complex expert evidence and difficult medical issues. Jane also has extensive experience of vulnerable and emotional clients.

Jane practices as a Family barrister.


Additional information

Jane started her career as a lecturer in Law and Government and Politics, then qualified as a Solicitor in 1992 rising to become partner in her previous firm. She is a member of the Legal Services Funding Panel and was a member of the Nottinghamshire Law Society Council and the Resolution Committee until she was called to the Bar in 2006.
