Family

Amanda has developed an extensive Family Law practice and regularly appears in complex public and private law cases. In addition she has experience of dealing with Forced Marriage cases.

Amanda regularly acts for parents, Guardians, interveners, the Official Solicitor and local authorities. She has considerable expertise in proceedings involving serious allegations of physical, sexual or emotional abuse.

Amanda has a wealth of experience in dealing with complex medical issues. She also brings this expertise into her representation of those involved in Inquest hearings.

Amanda has recently ( February 2018)  been commended by the Judge in a  case involving significant fracture injuries for taking the experts to information contained in the child’s medical record  which suggested that the child may be suffering from the condition, osteogenesis imperfecta. Such a diagnosis would have serious consequences for the experts’ findings  that the injuries were non accidental.
As a result of this, the final hearing had to be halted whilst genetic testing was carried out. The testing revealed that the child was found to be suffering from this life changing condition. This entirely changed the landscape of the case whereby the child was successfully returned to the care of the birth parents and is now receiving the appropriate specialist medical care for this condition.
